Lendal Bridge fines unsafe says government adjudicator

Massive development in the Lendal Bridge saga which could result in refunds for all motorists fined by York Council. The government adjudicator has ruled that York Council has no power to fine motorists. See Press article below:

City Council now received legal advice that the fines are legal. The bridge is the easternmost of the three in the City centre. Don't blindly follow your sat nav as their data has not been updated for the experimental scheme. The closure is legally signed and if you drive a private car over it at present during restricted hours you will be fined.

The restrictions on Lendal Bridge have all been removed - as of last Saturday. The pedestrian street restrictions remain, including the long period of restriction on Coppergate.

"The pedestrian street restrictions remain, including the long period of restriction on Coppergate." That's odd - it was someone claiming that acting as a volunteer for a local charity somehow made their car a 'taxi' and therefore exempt from the restrictions on Coppergate that led to the adjudicator's decision that neither that road nor Lendal Bridge could properly be described as bus streets. The 'my car was a taxi' argument was dismissed in one paragraph. At least, that's how I read the adjudication.
