Crabbing!

Sad question from a woman of advancing years - possibly due to a deprived childhood!

We've just returned from a break in Norfolk and daughter and I really enjoyed crabbing in Wells and Blakeney. Are there any harbours or other areas on the Northumberland coast good for dangling a line? We're staying in the Holy Island/Bamburgh area for a week in September.

I can't help you with this one, but it sounds great fun. If no-one comes up with any suggestions then you could try emailing Bamburgh and asking them. There are contact details on the Bamburgh web site:

http://www.bamburgh.org.uk/

Also try emailing Lindisfarne:

http://www.lindisfarne.org.uk/

And Tourist Information in Seahouses.

Email: seahouses.tic@northumberland.gov.uk

Hopefully someone should come up with some ideas. Do post back how you get on.

Great question - Seahouses, Beadnell (only west facing harbour on the east coast as far as I know) or Craster would all be great. If you don't catch any you can always buy fresh crab in Seahouses or n Craser (just follow the smell of kippers in either place)

Have a good trip

Hi there,

Well if you're looking for a harbour to dangle a line from then you could try Craster, Seahouses, Beadnell, Berwick or Holy Island itself which has a harbour wall with excellent views of Bamburgh Castle, Lindisfarne Castle and the priory - Holy Island is probably the pick of the bunch!

Otherwise, there are any number of rocky outcrops that you can head out on to.

Have fun!

Hi there

We've just returned from a week away in Berwick upon Tweed. (our 3rd year there). Our boys just love the rock pools at Seahouses. When the tide is going out there is an abundance of rockpools to explore, we found crabs, starfish, fish and prawns! In the harbour there were plenty people catching crabs, although we didn't try it, it certainly seemed like a great place to catch . You can even enjoy a great fish n chip dinner sat on the benches overlooking the harbour. Don't forget your waterproofs though!! Have a great time, you won't be disappointed with the Northumberland coastline, we reckon its the most wonderful place in England.
