We did this just last week, and did two landing trips, on Staple and Inner Farne.

We used different companies for these but couldn't see any difference between the various boat trips . Each company had a kiosk on the harbour at Seahouses and we just chose the trips which were offered at times that suited us. One of the days we went was a very warm and busy Saturday but there was no need for advance booking. They are all the same price.

We were lucky enough to be there during the breeding season and it was a great experience, highly recommended .

I'm not sure how long the season lasts, but if the birds are still nesting then both would be worth seeing. If it makes a difference Staple (guillemots, puffins, cormorants,) is open in the morning and Inner Farne ( terns and puffins) in the afternoon. There are blackboards at the various harbour kiosks indicating what is particularly interesting each day.

There are also non landing trips around the islands but I would definitely choose to land.

Well, Saturday 6th we bought our 1.30 pm ticket about an hour before, but the boat was only about one third full. You will need to check how late the boats run in the afternoon as the Islands have limited opening for landing visits and we spent quite a long time at Alnwick.

I have just looked at the National Trust website and it seems that opening hours are longer in August.

We just back, did the hour and half trip with Billy Shiels, it was great. We didn't book it, we turned up a minute before it was due to sail and still got on! It was busy but not full up.

All the boat trips looked good.
