Trails along the North Yorkshire Moors Railway

We are planning to ride the NYMR on Sunday. We hope to go to Whitby and then stop on the way back for a walk of just a bit more than 2 hours. I have heard of the Rail Trail between Grossmount and Goathland and the loop down to Beck Hole in Goathland. Any recommendation of which to choose or of another better choice? We are not from England and would love to get a feel for the English moors and Yorkshire countryside. We're hoping for good weather--the forecast looks promising!

Goathland to Grosmont is a nice walk, mostly along the original railway line that was replaced by the current one. Walk it in that direction as it is distinctly uphill doing it from Grosmont!

Very good but tiny pub in Beck Hole.

Or you can take a hiller walk from Goathland that mostly follows the railway as far as Beckhole with good views of the trains and the moors. You really need to get a walking map or go to getamap.co.uk and print one or two sections off.

Did this many many years ago, having been told we could ride one way and walk the other. We chose the wrong way, uphill all the way! It was when Charles & Di married and we wanted to avoid all the wedding fever of the time.

We walked the Rail Trail from Goathland to Grossmont. The day was absolutely perfect--sun shining and dafodils lining the path. It was exactly what we were hoping for.
