Nottingham With The Family

I will be spending the weekend in Nottingham with my family - husband, 3 year old and 1 year old. We will be spending one night. Can anyone recommend some good itineraries as well as family friendly dining places? We are staying near Victoria Embankment.

Are you staying this weekend ? If so be prepared for a busy time down at the Embankment as it is the Nottingham Marathon on Sunday from 10 am.

Nottingham City Centre has plenty of shopping. If there is some sunshine the children may enjoy the new fountains on Market Square where they can play in the water - take spare clothes. All the usual family restaurants are in the city. It depends what sort of food you like, Tamatanga is good for Indian food on Trinity Square near the Cornerhouse complex. In the city centre there is the castle which has nice grounds, and some rooms in the castle ( which is more like a stately home ) with toys and activities for young children. The Trip to Jerusalem pub is a short walk from the castle and has outdoor tables which is handy with children.

Out of the city Wollaton Park on the west side is a good place to visit. Best on Saturday as the marathon passes on Sunday so it will be busy.

Another out of town area worth a trip with children is West Bridgford. There is a lovely park with lots of play equipment just off Bridgford Road, not far from Trent Bridge cricket ground, and over the road there are some restaurants including Pizza Express and a good Chinese. This would be just over Trent Bridge from where you are staying.

Enjoy your stay in Nottingham
