Alternative airports

I will be in Nottingham at a weekend conference in April and need to fly from there to Barcelona. There is no suitable flight from East Midlands airport as I cannot leave until lunchtime at the earliest. Can anyone tell me which other airports are reasonably easily accessible by train from Nottingham?

The obvious would be Luton Airport as there are direct trains from Nottingham. However the trains take 2 hours

Slightly quicker you could get to Birmingham Airport via Birmingham

jets2.com have flights from Leeds/Bradford but that will take about 2.75hrs and two changes by train. National express run a coach service to Leeds but that's not much quicker. You can also get to Luton by either train or coach....again not much in it. The rail service Luton goes to the Parkway station...you'll need a shuttle from there. There are also flights from Stansted but again a very long journey to get there.

Robin Hood airport is not on a train route but should be accessible by bus or taxi from Doncaster or Retford stations.

Doncaster is the closest rail station to RH Airport - you can find how to get to the airport at

Luton or Birmingham will be the most convenient if you rely on public transport. If you hire a car, you can also look at Stansted airport which is 2 hours by car (about 3 - 3,5 by train). or like some others suggested Doncaster Robin Hood Airport.
