Gatwick to Nottingham

Hi it's me again. We will be flying into Gatwick and we are going to Nottingham. How long does it take to get from the airport to Nottingham?

Thanks

By train it's 3 hours - look for routes from Gatwick to St Pancras to Nottingham

By coach it's around 5 hours if you find a direct coach, nearer 6 if you have to change in London

If doing it by train (weekdays), the most direct route is First Capital Connect train to St Pancras, and then train from St Pancras (upper level) to Nottingham. (At weekend you would need to change at London Bridge and get the Northern Line tube).

Advance tickets from £16.00, however these tie you to a specific train on the St Pancras to Nottingham leg, so allow plenty of time (St Pancras is a good station with plenty of places to while away the time if you are early). The earlier you book the tickets, the cheaper they will tend to be (go on sale c12 weeks before travel date). If you want more flexibility in your ticket, and are not travelling peak hours, get an 'off-peak return' (can return any day within one month).

The train is certainly quicker, and avoids the risk of being stuck in a coach on the M25 in a traffic jam.

Agree with St39 that the cheapest tickets go earliest, but there are usually reasonably priced advance tickets available right up to the day before travel. I have just looked and on Monday there are one way tickets on sale for £19. As St39 points out you have to travel on the St Pancras to Nottingham train detailed on your ticket.

Book online at the nationalrail.co.uk website, and then use the card that you paid with to collect the ticket from the self service ticket machines at Gatwick.
