Nottingham.... Please Help :-)

Hi there,

I have just booked a weekend break to Nottingham from 22nd - 25th of Feb for a family break, 10 of us - ages 25 to about 60. I would really love some advice for things to do and places to eat and socalise. I think we will visit Nottingham castle but dont know whether to take in a tour with the festival if words around the castle as I believe thats is taking place that weekend. Also from checking the internet I see that there is some sort of cave tour that can be done, its under some shopping centre, I dont even know how from from the centre that will be? We r staying on Maid Marian Way, which I think is quite central? We would like to eat one of the evenings in a real good English Gastro pub if anyone could sugget a place for good food that would b great? Thank u all for taking the time to read this. X

Maid Marian Way is the inner ring road; not nearly as scenic as it sounds I'm afraid, but nicely situate in the centre of Nottingham. You will be very close to the cave tours - visit Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem Pub which is partly dug into the cliffs and I see also does cellar tours.

Castle, Caves & Trip to Jerusalem all good suggestions. there is also the Courthouse Museum and Woollaton Hall to consider. You will find everything on the Visit Nottingham website and any Hotel worth their salt will have Staff who can tell you how to get to places. It's also likely they will have loads of leaflets promoting all sorts of nearby attractions with directions. You should fine.

Have not been there Myself for some Years now, with luck Bev and some other locals will be along soon to help you on the Pub front. However there are some threads on the subject already, so do have a browse around this forum.

Back to places to visit, how about Newstead Abbey or Papplewick Pumping Station?

Where on Maid Marion Way are you staying..there is an hotel along there which features on Tripadvisor reviews and...

As for pubs, look at the Castle Rock Brewery site. I like the Kean's Head in the Lace Market district but their other pubs are good too.

There is a tourist information office as part of the Town Hall on the Old Market Square.

Thanks Guys, We r staying in the Park Plaza, 41 Maid Marian Way. There looks like there is a Robin Hood guided tour around the town one of those days, it might be informative about the history of the town, caves, castle etc???.... still rooting around the sites!!! Appreciate the help ;-)

You might want to take a look at www.riverbanknotts.co.uk think it could be what you are looking for. You might need to book, especially with such a large party. West Bridgeford is also a nice area for a drink and a meal and worth looking at.

Hi

The cave tour you mention is on the top level of the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre just before the escalators to the exit.

So pubs with English food I would say the Bell Inn which is a stones throw from where you are staying and well worth a visit anyway.

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem does also do good food though.

For a gastro pub with a difference then the Pitcher + Piano is my recommendation.

It is a converted Church on High Pavement in the Lace Market and one of my favourite haunts.

Things to do:

Ye Old Salutation Inn on Maid Marian Way way do ghost tours on a Saturday night starting at 7pm. No need to book beforehand.

The Galleries of Justice museum is very popular.

If you do go to Wollaton Hall then a short walk up the road is the Admiral Rodney pub which is a quaint old place which also does decent food.

I can't comment on the West Bridgford suggestion but it would be a very long walk. There are regular buses though from the City Centre.

Hope that helps

Hi. West Bridgeford is about 2 miles away. Suggest if you haven't already look at all the suggestions on Google Streetview.
