Parking in Reading

We are going to be staying 1 night in the Novotel in Reading centre, and I realise that parking in the Oracle or Broad Street Mall is very expensive and not that convenient because of the one-way system.

Is there an alternative place to park? It appears Reading train station has parking at £9.80 for 24hrs, has anyone else done this or can suggest an alternative?

This is taken right from the website:

Parking is available at an NCP Car Park just 1 minutes walk from the hotel on Garrard Street at a cost of £9 for 24 hours.

Are you sure that's right? Last time I parked there, maybe 5 years ago, I paid about £12-£15 and that was for maybe 12 hours !

A quick google gave this …parkopedia.co.uk/parking/… which says its about twice your quoted price.

Forgot about that, its in a little alley to the left as you drive up towards the station from the hotel, and frankly not sure I'd leave my car there overnight - but it is cheap (for Reading)

Hi Milly80 - Parking is expensive in Reading town centre.Bearing that in mind, i would be inclined to park in the Oracle or ( closer )Broad Street Mall multi-storey car park only because i would imagine they are used most over night - i would choose the level which has the security guards office on it. Garrard Street car park is just behind the hotel and the station car park is just over the road. All will probably cost around the same, give or take a few pounds.Dont worry about the one way system....theres no escaping it but its not that much of a problem. Good luck !

That's odd that they quote £9 on the website, as I've looked online (on the NCP website and Reading BC ones) and they say that parking in Garrard Street is £16. 24 hours at the Oracle is £20 which I think is quite extortionate!

I'm trying to find a cheaper place to park as when I booked the hotel I thought parking was available there, and am on a budget.

Does anyone know anywhere we can park for £10-15ish for 24 hours?

Thanks!

Frankly, if there is anywhere that cheap I'm not sure I'd want to use it ! Maybe its an extra tenner, but whats that compared to the hassle and cost of a car "issue" due to you parking somewhere dodgy ?

i completely agree with Joeintheuk....id rather be safe than sorry - having your car nicked, for the sake of a couple of pounds would really mess up your budget trip to Reading. You mentioned the station car park for £9.80.....its as good as any of the other town centre car parks and is close - i guess you'll have luggage to carry so dont want to be walking to far.

Dear Milly80, we have a very limited parking at the Novotel on a first come first served basis. Feel free to call hotel for directions as it is not easy to find. £14 overnight but it's clean, safe and in the hotel...Jean-Philippe (Novotel General Manager)
