Sculptures outside Abbey Ruins

During a recent visit to Reading we saw beautiful and haunting sculptures of faces within orb-like sculptures but could find no information at the location on artist, subject, or meaning. Is it a memorial? Is it related to the Abbey ruins? We were in town only for the evening-tourist bureau closed, so couldn't ask there. Thanks for any information!
