Visiting aussie crket team needs essentials......

Aussie cricket team staying at holiday inn (vic) need a recommendation for nearby-

- pub with sky tv to watch trent bridge test and serve as a good local for five days.

- curry house that stays open late (after 11.00 pm)

PS is the victoria a bit out of the way?

The Victoria isn't the most central location, however it is only a short taxi ride to the centre, or you could walk it in 10-15 mins. You will find most bars on Division Street or West Street, a few of these show quite a lot of sports and will prob have the cricket on. You could try the Australian walkabout, its cheap and will definitely have the cricket, however I personally wouldn't choose to go there. I would probably go to The Common Rooms on Division Street, it has a lot of tvs showing sport, its a nice modern bar, got a few pool tables. Also there are plenty of other bars near by if you fancy a change. As for curry houses, the Victoria is right by an area of Sheffield known as The Wicker, there should be 1 or 2 curry houses around there open after 11, however I couldn't vouch for how good they are.

Big Gun is your nearest pub on the Wicker. Very old pub, real ale that sort of thing. Don't know about Ozzy larger mind, it'll start you off though. Yes, Walkabout is the Ozzy pub in town, giant screen over the stage will defo have the cricket on sells the usual Fosters and Victoria Bitter, very nice. About 8 minutes walk £4.00 in a taxi. Hope that helps

Parkhead Cricket club at Ecclesall Road South, about a tenner. The tram service is good, very reliable limited to where it goes though but ties in with the buses in most parts. There are a couple of municipal golf courses easy to get to resonably priced and you can hire all the gear if you want to pass a few hours. Tinsley Park would be your nearest. About 15 minutes by cab. Bus 52 From The Wicker will take you straight there but if you are traveling in groups you won't save any money on the bus it will be about £2 each.

Yes Ponds Forge is Near. Day Ticket for the Tram. You could get a Bus to Ecclesall Road. If it is Stagecoach. The Tram Ticket is valid on their Buses too. The Sheffield Star Newspaper is good, for whats on. Available on the Net Too. You could do the Real Ale Trail. Craft Beer, Sheffield is Famous for this.

>>pub to serve as a good local for five days<<

With all the current fuss about Australian sports people taking performance enhancing drugs, it is nice to find a team that uses a performance reducing drug.

Which weekend in July is it? Tramlines music festival falls on the third weekend in July - www.tramlines.org.uk. This sees outdoor music stages appear in the City Centre and many of the bars put on free entry gigs too.

Whats on listings, maps and more can be found on the welcome to Sheffield website - www.welcometosheffield.co.uk.

Public transport tickets - an all day ticket for the trams cost £3.90, this also include buses operated by Stagecoach. Alternatively you can buy a day ticket valid on the trams and all operators buses for £4.30. Weekly tickets cost £13 for Stagecoach only or £17 for all operators. More info at www.travelsouthyorkshire.com.

I would stay away from pubs near the Victoria as it isn't the greatest area, instead head either to the City Centre or Kelham Island district. As mentioned by someone else, in the City Centre there is the Common Room on Division Street which is a mixture of sports bar and pool hall. There are also lots of other good bars around this area.

Another approach would be to find a pub like the Rutland Arms on Brown Street (www.rutlandarmspeople.co.uk) which has an upstairs room with a TV that you can book for private use. They have a decent range of beers and serve food all afternoon.
