Hi there. I could suggest travelling by train, changing at Bristol Temple Meads. There are several direct trains every day from Bristol Temple Meads to Edinburgh and it may be checking out www.thetrainline.com for cheap deals.

Avoid using the trainline as recommended above, unless you want to pay booking and debit card fees.

Just use www.nationalrail.co.uk to check times and fares.

Cross Country trains operate the service up to Edinburgh, so buy tickets on www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk who have no added on fees that the trainline will charge you.

What do you mean by easiest ?

Shortest ? least hassle ? cheapest ?

Basically you have 2 choices, by train from Bath Spa or by plane from Bristol Airport, which is about an hour away.

The train is long on time and expensive on food. You do get to see countryside in comfort though.

I always use the plane, Easyjet is the most straightforward to use and it's cheaper than train. The little airport at Bristol is one of my favourites set in beautiful countryside. There is a luggage charge on top of ticket prices so take that into consideration if you have lots of cases. Also new hand luggage sizes ie quite small so be aware.

If you do have lots of cases it may be cheaper to use the train, if you can spare the time.
