What buses that go to the assembly rooms?

I'm staying outside the city centre in B&B along the wellsway road (approx. Bear Flat stop).

I can only seem to find a bus that goes to the main depot. Do buses not go any further than that?

The road outside the assembly rooms is pedestrianised so no buses will stop there.

The 13 is probably the closest bus, use the stops in Walcot Street.

The 6/7 is actually the best bus to get, although to be honest it's not really worth the hassle of paying the fare and sitting in a traffic jam on the bus to get to the other side of the city centre where the Assembley Rooms are.

It's a 15-20 walk max from the bus station to the Assembley Rooms.

It is a nice walk down the hill from Bear Flat to the city centre - but use Holloway (the original Wells road), not the current Wells road. And as Matt says, the walk from the bus station is easy, unless you have mobility issues.

Walking back up to Bear Flat is a different issue.....

So its would be best perhaps to catch bus down to the bus station then walk from there? (And of course same in reverse...don't fancy walking back up that hill. lol)

Yes, just walk it.

From the bus station cross Dorchester Street and walk through the new Southgate shopping area and up past the Roman Baths. Then just keep on going straight up the pedestrianised area and then up Milsom Street until you get to George Street. Turn right, cross over at the pelican crossing and go straight up the narrow, and pedestrianised, Saville Row.

The Assembley Rooms will be right in front of you.

The ability to walk through and around Bath is one of its attractions. Down Holloway rather than the main Wells Road, as RomanCitizen suggested, is much more pleasant, and then follow matt_1376's guidance for a direct walking route.

It's a gentle slope up all the way from the bus station (by the river) to the top of Milsom Street, then a short bit that's a bit steeper. If you tire easily there's plenty of places to stop and see other sights, have a coffee or just sit on a bench.

After your time at the Assembly Rooms it's downhill all the way to the bus station, then you can decide if you feel like walking back up Holloway.

Here's some bus timetables should you need them:

13: Buses from Bear Flat where you are staying start in Foxhill and go to the bus station, but then carry on through the city centre. You could get off at the bus stop on Walcot Street just past the Hilton hotel, and from there it's a 5/6 minute walk to the Assembly Rooms.

6/7: If you walk into town from Bear Flat and then get bus from the bus station to the Assembly Rooms then you need to get the #6 (not the #7) and get off at the Lansdown Road/Alfred Street stop. The 6/7 is a circular route and if you accidentally get the #7 you will end up going down Walcot Street and London Road, although you can get the #7 back from the Lansdown Road/Alfred Street stop to the bus station, but as we have already said, it's not worth the hassle of getting this bus, and it's only a half hourly service. (I'm sure it used to to be every 15 minutes when I lived there).
