I think most traditional pubs would allow a youngster in for a little while. As long as they arent necking pints. I used to go to the match with my dad when I was a nipper all the time.

I take it you mean in the city centre?

I would suggest the Newcastle Arms near Stowell St, the Strawberry next to St James and maybe the Hotspur near the Haymarket could be the type of thing you are looking for. This might give you some idea:

I always make a point of nipping into the Crown Posada when I'm in Newcastle. Not sure of their child policy, but I'd imagine it would be Ok before 6 PM.

Yep - "The Crown Posada" is an excellent little pub with a good traditional atmosphere. They play vinyl records in there ! Give them a ring re children.

I'm always hoping I'll find somewhere like "The North Eastern" that you see early in "Get Carter" - but sadly it was demolished according to this …blueyonder.co.uk/getcarter/longbar.htm and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have allowed kids in !

thanks for all that information. You can't beat a drink in an old fashioned pub but totally understand that they all have their own rules re kids.

The Bridge and the Crown Posada must be high on your list.

The Bridge Hotel is fine with kids (my eight-year-old loves it there) before six although the Crown Posada is self-evidently a drinker's pub. Your best bet may be to head to Ouseburn where a number of fine old pubs - the Free Trade, Cumberland and Cluny - are fine with nippers.
