Fish and chips

Hi,

Will be in Newcastle next week for three days stayting near the central railway station. Generally try to suss out a really good fish and chip shop/restaurant wherever we go. I remember the fantastic Colemans in South Shields a few years back!!

Can anyone suggest a really good chippy in Newcastle.

Mouth watering now in anticipation!!!

Thats a good question, i can not think of a specialist fish and chip restaurant in Newcastle.Plenty of places selling fish and chips but not what I would call just a fish and chip place like Colemans. However my best shout would be the Waterline bar on the Quayside,The haddock is cooked in Newcastle Brown Ale batter.

Sounds an interesting place. Batter really is what makes good fish. Whereabouts is that place. Many thanks.

The Waterline is down on the quayside - if you head down Grey Street/Dean Street you will be near the Tyne Bridge, underneath it, carry on towards the Millenium Bride and the Baltic gallery over on the Gateshead side and the Waterline is about a 5 min walk, before the Millenium bridge.

My suggestion would be to hop on the Metro to Tynemouth and visit Marshalls for fab fish n chips, or go to the Fish Quay at North Shields, there's a couple of really good fish and chip shops there too - bit more of a walk from Tynemouth but google map it, it is doable if its a nice day and you are keen!

When living in a NE postcode we used to visit and recommend North Shields on the quay.

Hence lookie mentions

http://www.colmansfishandchips.com/

You could as he suggests try

http://thewaterlinebar.co.uk/

next to the Tyne which is closer to the main railway station.

There are lots of central restaurants and bars now, but times have moved like the population and their chippies.

Coleman's has recently been re furbished and is now fully licensed. The fish and chips are the best and the scampi is sublime. I wish they were in Newcastle.

Exiled in Norfolk, Coleman's is (one of the many) things I lie in bed and miss at night...

But not as much as stottie!
