Day in Newcastle - Airport to Northumbria Uni

There are 15 of us flying into Newcastle on Sat 22nd Feb and we need to get to Northumbria University (NE1 8ST). The Metro looks like a better option than taxies. I am looking for help to establish which station is nearest the Uni, how long it will take and what the ticket costs to return to the airport on the same day. I am expecting to book some accommodation near the airport for the return flight on Sunday 23rd. If anyone can provide any advice on how best to make this journey or comment on accommodation, it would be most welcome. Most of the party are over 16. Thanks.

The single (one-way) Metro fare is £3.30, but there is a 'Daysaver' ticket for £4.50. This gives you unlimited Metro travel for one day and will be your cheapest option (much cheaper than buying two singles). You can buy the Daysaver ticket from all ticket machines at the Airport Metro station. They take cash and cards.

The Metro departs every 10 minutes from the Airport (the station is in the terminal building). The journey takes about 20 mins to Haymarket, from where it is a short walk to Northumbria University.

The Metro is really easy to use and is definitely the way to go!

Depends which Department you want, Haymarket Metro station is probably the easiest station to find the University from. when you come out on to the pedestrianised Northumberland St, look to your left and you'll see St Thomas's church. head towards the church then turn right on the road between the Metro and the church, behind the church you'll see the Civic Centre, the road turns to the left behind the Civic Centre, on the right on this bend in the road is one of the main entrances to Northumbria University. It's about 300 yards from the Haymarket to this entrance.

However the University's main entrance (as in it's address) is in Ellison Place, which isn't as straight forward, there is little difference between Haymarket and Monument
