What to do in Alcester and surrounding areas

Hi everyone,

My partner and I are in our 20's and are off to Coughton Lodge, Alcester tomorrow for 5 days.

We don't have our own transport but are quite willing to walk a couple of miles or get public transport.

So where do you recommend? Can we easily get to Stratford-upon-Avon or is it worth going further afield some of the days? We like a bit of history and I like a bit of shopping but any suggestions would be good :)

There's a regular bus service to Stratford (Number 26, takes 30 mins), and then you have the Shakespeare Houses, and all the other Stratford attractions at your disposal.

There's a decent size shopping area in Redditch, but it's probably no different from any other medium sized town. For "proper" shopping you should go into Birmingham, where there's lots to do too.

I'm sure there are interesting things going on in Alcester, but I'm just not very familiar - maybe a local will come along and help...
