Dirty Duck

We are regular visitors to Stratford - usually in the summer months, and a trip is never complete without a visit to the Dirty Duck. This year we are coming a little later, for the Mop Fair and I have been trying to call the DD for a couple of days now to book a table. So far unsuccessfull, either no answer - or even been cut off! Just been looking at the reviews on here and they are not so good as usual.

Any comments anyone please?

Thanks,

Karen

Hi Karen,

The DD is a popular drinking place and doesn't really have much of a reputation for food. Not to say there is anything wrong with it, but in the last year there have been half a dozen restaurant openings to add to the 30+ in the town , and I guess the bar is being raised all the time.

The newest restaurant is the Church Street Townhouse, and I can recommend that (if you don't mind it being busy and noisy).

Enjoy the Mop!

Thanks, will take a look at that one. More the service seems to be criticised at the DD though? Surprised me a little.

The Dirty Duck is currently closed for a refurbishment, so that may be why you cannot get a reply. It should be re-opening around 15 October, so well worth checking out after that date. They also now have their own website - www.dirtyduck-pub-stratford-upon-avon.co.uk

If you want a pub meal, try the Garrick Inn (same group as Dirty Duck). It was refurbished earlier this year and is situated on High Street, opposite Sheep Street.

Another pub full of character and very cosy is the Old Thatch Tavern on the corner of Greenhill Street and Rother Street.

If you would like a restaurant, as previously mentioned, try the Church Street Town House, Vintner, Opposition or Lambs - all very good.

Thanks, that explains it! Yes, we know the Garrick well, same chain now as the DD? Certainly the menu was the same last time we were there. The Vitner is a favourite of ours too, the first place we had a meal first time we visited Statford together in 2000.

Thanks very much indeed for the info.
