East Midlands Airport is 40 miles from Birmingham. I would suggest that you start Googling for taxi services in Birmingham who do airport runs or hire a mini-bus for the trip as public transport is going to be EXPENSIVE.

Trains East Midlands Parkway - Birmingham New Street take about 1h20, changing at Leicester. Service frequency depends on time of day but may not be more than hourly.

Anytime Single is £19, Anytime Return (1 month validity for return portion) is £21.50. You can save about £5 if you can travel on an Offpeak ticket. Those tickets do not have to be booked in advance. Those are per person - I see you have 9 people - you probably need to arrange a minibus hire!

See the airport page for pre-booked taxi between the airport and EMP station

"Trains East Midlands Parkway - Birmingham New Street take about 1h20, changing at Leicester. "

You've got to be careful, as there are several other slower services that take between 1h45m & 2h00m to get to Birmingham - but even jumping straight into a taxi and getting straight on a train the quickest you could do the trip is around 2 hours. A direct taxi / mini bus to Birmingham from EMA would take about 50 minutes

As the pre-booked taxi is £4.50 per person you are looking at a cost of £100 each way to use public transport. I'd get on the phone to Birmingham based taxi companies to arrange a pickup.

Better still fly to Birmingham Airport instead

National Express run a coach service from EMA to Birmingham Coach Station, with one change. Costs from £10 but slower than the train if previous travel times are correct.

Might be worth trying a minbus firm to get a quote as between 9 it could be cost effective.

If this is at a weekend, do also check for any planned engineering works on those train lines.

The usual route from East Midlands Parkway to Birmingham is via Deby, not Leicester. It is possible to get the Skylink bus service from the airport to Derby and then take the train, this bus service runs every 30 minutes throughout the day from the terminal building. Combined bus/rail tickets are available.
