Christmas shopping in Birmingham - ideas please !

Hi all ,

4 " ladies " ( 40-50!-) heading to Birmingham this weekend for a bit of shopping - can anyone suggest areas we might like ?

Selfridges etc is a must - but , to be honest, the " bullring " sounds like all the shops on every high street in Britain !

Is there anywhere we can find anything different - junk shops , antiques, independent clothes shops etc ?

Oh - and what is the best way to get to the centre from Birmingham airport please?

many thanks in advance, all suggestions will be gratefully received !

German Markets are excellent and great pace for food and drinks.

Jewellery Quarter if you are looking for jewellery. Vertu Bar is a great place for lunch and drinks in the Jewellery Quarter. Whilst down there, RBSA is a wonderful art gallery on St Paul’s Square and sells unique jewellery made by artists.

Birmingham has some lovely arcades – try Burlington, Great Western and Piccadilly Arcades – all have lovely independent shops and are wonderful at Christmas.

The Mailbox – Harvey Nichols, Armani, Hugo Boss etc. great place for high end shopping and for food/drinks

House of Fraser – an excellent department store.

Custard Factory, Digbeth – lots of independent stores housed in the old Bird’s custard Factory a short walk from Selfridges.

The Indoor Markets - for bargains and cheaper end goods.

You can walk to most places mentioned within 5 minutes from New St or for Custard Factory and Jewellery Quarter – about 10-20 minutes.

The train is easiest and quickest way into the city centre. However you don’t say where you are staying so if your hotel is far from New Street Station, might be better to take a cab – as there are four of you the cost is likely to be just a little more than the train but maybe more convenient.
