Bars/Clubs on Wednesday night

Hi,

I'm staying in Birmingham on Wednesday night, visiting for the massive semi-final of the Carling Cup.

As a West Ham fan (and going with a couple of others) I really don't want to end up in a bar/pub that might is likely to get us in a spot of bother after the match.

Can anyone reccomend anywhere decent? A jamaican/caribbean bar would be amazing, failing that then anything indie/alternative would be good. Basically, something as metaphorically far away as possible from "Yates" or "Walkabout"....

On another note, can you recomend any decent curry houses for an early dinner (around 5pm)? Ideally cheap, and not too far from the City Centre.

Cheers in advance!

Indian food at that time of day is likely to be limited. Many restaurants open for lunch and dinner but not all day. Al Frash in the Balti Triangle is excellent http://www.alfrash.com . They are bring your own beer too so cheap and cheerful. It opens at 5pm and a cab from there to St Andrew’s will be about £5. Adil’s is alsovery good. This part of Birmingham has lots of curry houses and everyone has their own favourite but if you want see reviews just check this link http://www.birminghamplus.com/listings/listings_results.asp?area=1&cuisine=&submit=GO&menu1=Quick+Searches......

Any pubs in Birmingham are likely to be fine – if you are not wearing a West Ham top. There are plenty of idiots about so perhaps worth taking the precaution of a jumper/jacket.

I have no idea if there are any Caribbean bars in Birmingham so perhaps someone else can advise.

After I posted yesterday – I remembered the Island Bar – maybe as close to a Caribbean bar in the city centre as you’ll get. It is independently owned and in a central location. Not the same crowd as Walkabout etc. http://www.bar-island.co.uk/main_bar.htm
