Sharon, which theatre are you going to? Also, tell us which type of food and budget you are looking for and I'm sure we can help.

As alredy said, a lot depends on what theatre you are going to.

The Hippodrome and Alexandra are near each other in the city centre, it could be either of those.

If so the Arcadian is very close to both of them (right opposite the Hippodrome), with plenty of places to eat.

There is the old rep theatre (the new rep is currently closed), or the crescent theatre (but that is very small) or the Old Joint Stock theatre (also very small).

Or maybe it is the NIA, or even the LG arena, or even the Symphony hall, though they are more concert halls than theatres.

So give us a clue and name the theatre.

Thanks for prompt reply. We are going to Alexandra Theatre. Would like to try and avoid burger/pizza/ type place, and for an early supper was hoping to pay about £15 per head??

As well as the Arcadian there is also the Mailbox, which is right opposite the Alexandra (the other side of a dual carrageway but you can walk under it).

The Mailbox is a large upmarket shopping area, but at the back of it, overlooking the canal, are a whole load of restaurants and bars.

On a sunny afternoon or evening it is very pleasant to sit in one of these canal side restaurants and have a drink or a bite to eat.

Also nearby the Alexandra theatre is Brindley Place. This is also canalside based and has a load more bars and restaurtants

It is a pleasant walk from the Alexandra theatre to Brindley Place.

Walk from the Alexandra theatre, THROUGH the Mailbox and come out the back (where all the Mailbox bars and restaurants are), then walk along the canal footpath for a few hundred yards and you come to Brindley Place.

In fact Brindley Place is right next to Broad St (you walk under Broad St when you walk along the canal towpath) and there are loads of places to eat and drink along Broad St as well.

Note that Brindley Place and Broad St pretty much merge into each other.

So as you can see you have plenty of choices

1) Arcadian

2) Mailbox

3) Brindley Place

4) Broad St.

Pubs - The Crown and The Victoria are right by The Alex. Both serve good pub food.

Chinese - very nearby is Hurst Street/The Arcadian which has lots of good restaurants. New Sum Yi is good. legend is good Chinese/Korean.

The Mailbox has lots of options - mostly chains such as Strada, Cote, Estillo etc. All offering good value menus and all geared up for pre- theatre service.
