Cheap night time haunts for mixed age group?

Hi,

I'm visiting Birmingham next week and we plan to go out on the tiles while we're there. Can anyone recommend bars and clubs which aren't too poncy and full of 18yr olds? We will be in a large age group and we would just like to have let our hair down without feeling like we're being judged by young'uns!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Although we haven't yet booked our hotel I think we'll be staying near the Bullring.

Many thanks.

I must admit I dont go out much in Birmingham, being over 60.

However I understand the area round St Pauls church, near the Jewellery Quarter, just north west of Snow Hill station, caters for the older age group.

Lots of clubs and bars there.

Maybe the Jam House. I am sure someone will correct me if not suitable

btw The other two main areas for bars and nightclubs is Broad St and the Arcadian area.

While Broad St does have a reputation for catering for the "younger" age group my guess is that there must be enough clubs and bars in the area to cater for all age groups.

For example Reflex on Broad St is themed as an "80s" club which makes me assume it caters for an older age group.

Here is the web site for Broad St

Here is the web site for the Arcadian area (note there are also a lot of gay bars in that area as well)

There are loads of pubs along Broad Street – all serve food. If your budget will stretch to a restaurant (about £15-20 per person for 2 courses) you should definitely try http://www.jujuscafe.co.uk/index.php It’s one of my favourite places, good neighbourhood restaurant, superb cooking and genuinely friendly service – about 7 minutes walk from your hotel just walk along Sheepcote Street for about 200m then turn left over the canal bridge. Reservation usually required.
