I'd be grateful for any ideas on how to get to Birmingham (say by 4pm) from either Southampton or Salisbury on a Friday in June without breaking the bank! National Express coaches take 5 to 6.5 hours, and cost 37 pounds. The cheapest rail journey I've found is via Reading for 25.70 pounds. Compared with other, longer UK rail journeys this seems expensive but may well be the best option. Perhaps someone knows of a coach trip that is quicker than 5 hours? I don't want to make more than 2 changes at the most. It seems that FRIDAY may be the problem: is Friday travel more expensive than a Saturday for example? Thanks in advance for any help.
