Okay so! I have my visa, have booked my flights (May 17) and decided on Leeds (my mates grandparents live in Ilkley and needed somewhere to base ourselves out of until we get jobs), and i've only recently read a few reviews on Leeds and to be honest, i'm sort of put off the place.
I get mixed opinions coming from the internet but main ones being the crime rate and teenage thuggary (if you could call it that) coming from street kids that poms sometimes refer to as "chavs".
These chavs don't put me off too much, i'm from a large country town and there were plenty of street kids who didn't mind yelling abuse at you from 100 metres away or chasing you if you looked at them wrong, but the petty crime and break-ins leaves me a bit uneasy because i'll be so far from home and will really only have my mate to rely on (and his elderly grandparents, but i hope you get my point).
So I need a few things from YOU! my fellow trip advisors...
Can someone set me straight on the place? Give me some good reviews? Tell me some nice areas to settle in that won't send me broke (if the exchange rate hasn't already), let me know where a sensible pair of 19 year old Australians should hang out.
Any advice would be amazing, because it's definitely going to be better than the internet paranoia i've been hooked on lately about that poor place called Leeds in west yorkshire.
