Riverside villages / inns

Hi all,

We are planning a weekend trip to Wiltshire area. We would ideally like to visit a quaint village on a river.

If you could make a recommendation for a village / inn by waterside we would really appreciate it

thank you for that recommendation.

If there is any other recommendation for a luxury hotel/ B&B by riverside, we would really appreciate it. We looked into quite a few ones - Lucknam Park, Whatley Manor, Manor house but none of them are by the water

Howards House is on the Nadder and is lovely. Gorgeous little village, wonderful food (best breakfast I've ever had anywhere).

Your request is a bit vague. Are you wanting to stay in said village/inn or merely visit for the atmosphere?

If it's a place with character, then the Barge Inn at Honeystreet will fit the bill. It's a pub that was built on the Kennet and Avon canal; it was taken over a while back by a consortium of locals when threatened with closure.

It's off the beaten track, and to get to the pub you actually go through a working saw mill!

Alternatively Stockbridge across the border in Hampshire less than 20 miles east of Salisbury might fulfil your requirements.

Oxfordshire and Wilts!

The Cotswolds.

Stay near Oxford and enjoy local University favourites next to water.

Hi there

One of the best canalside pubs in Wiltshire is the Cross Guns at Avoncliff. There's the Barge at Honeystreet as has been mentioned and there's also a Barge at Seend, again, right on the canal.

The Barge at Honeystreet is the HQ of the UK Crop Circle fraternity too so if that topic is of interest to you, it's well worth a visit.
