Which one would be a better choice (more selection, ability to customize your sandwich,or is one place less expensive than the other) for take away lunches for a picnic with my huband and two kids?

Thank you,

Eileen

AFAIK neither make sandwiches to order. Other than that there will be little difference between the two.

Agree with Mr Wibble for once! The differences are not worth worrying about, and you can't 'customize' your sandwich as they're pre-packaged. If you wish to do that, visit one of the little bakery or sandwich shops which probably wouldn't be that much more expensive than M&S if at all.

A cheaper option is Tesco and Sainsbury they also sell sandwiches, there is no difference in quality.

Any supermarket will provide equally similar packaged sandwiches. Time of day will affect the options of fillings on offer.

Thank you everyone for your help. Are there any sandwich shops near the Travelodge in Windsor that would be good to get take away?

Thank you.

From what I can see, the Travelodge is pretty close to the action in Windsor, so whilst I don't have any particular name, you won't find any problems in finding sandwiches etc seeing as you'll be in the town anyhow. Just wait until you're ready to eat rather than buy sandwiches first thing and then have them going off as you walk around all morning.

We stayed at the Travelodge last week and found a great and inexpensive place to eat nearby. It's called "EAT" and is a chain in England. They had great healthy breakfast and lunch items. As you walk out of the Travelodge, go straight ahead then up the stone steps to your left and into the shopping center that used to be the train station. Walk around to your right and EAT is on your right. Although lots of M&S stores have food, I am not sure that the one in Windsor does. If they do, it is all premade. The Waitrose is very close to the Travelodge, but as mentioned before the sandwiches are premade. Know also that the sandwich fillings they have may not be what you are familiar with--for example, there was egg and watercress and ham and Branston pickle. You can always buy bread and meat, etc but there are no refrigerators in the Travelodge rooms.

Thank-you! We're going to Hampton Court Palace on the Saturday of our visit and I would rather bring a picnic than spend a lot of money eating at the Palace. Are there any other restaurant recommendation you have from your visit?

Thank you,

Eileen

Hi

In M&S you will generally find a separate takeaway section and they do more than just filled sandwiches/rolls eg range of individual portion salads (including pasta or rice salads), wraps, fresh fruit salads/whole fruit, desserts, soft drinks etc and supply free plastic cutlery/paper napkins. Also look at their main food section as you will find larger packs of some of the above which may be better value if you want to share.

I suspect Waitrose will be more or less the same.

There is a Subway in Williams street now. After the usual stuff in Waitrose and M&S why not treat yourself!
