Top 5 Castles

I was in Wales 6 years ago and got to see a number of castles and now I'm planning a trip back with DBF. What are the top 5 Welsh castles that we should have on our list?

And feel free to offer any other Wales-related advice if something strikes you :)

Thanks!

which castles did you see on your previous trip ?

There is always Caerphilly castle, Raglan castle, White castle, Grosmont, and a few more smaller ones, all of these are in a very small area and can be seen in one day.

Alf,.... PS not forgetting Cardiff castle !

In Wales I saw Caernarfon and some smaller ruins of castles that I don't know the name of (I was 18 at the time and my parents had done the planning). The boyfriend has never been to Wales, so its all new to him. He went to London when he was 12 but didn't see much of the English countryside or Wales at all. We want a trip to show him more of England and Wales and more of the country rather than heavy tourist stuff.

Thanks all for the suggestions! I'll be looking into them all!

Chepstow - one of the oldest stone castles and spectacularly perched at the foot of the Wye Valley:

Carreg Cennen - again spectacularly perched on a hilltop in south west Wales, and with its own "secret passage" as well:

as for the three others, I would say Pembroke, Conwy and Caernarfon.
