3 day itinerary for south-mid Wales

Hello all,

myself and my partner are driving to Wales in August and we have never been. We will be travelling on Thursday morning from London and coming back on Sunday. The reason we are going is the wedding on Saturday afternoon (near Lampeter), so aiming to find a place to stay somewhere around from Friday to Saturday/Sunday.

Can you please advise on 2-3 days itinerary, bearing in mind Saturday free for wedding and maybe the good places to stay possibly around East/Mid Wales. We like nature, not overcrowded places, were thinking of Beacon Natural Park.

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

See similar thread of today (and many others). Presumably you are staying in the Lampeter area over Saturday night? If you are looking for somewhere to base yourself for all three nights, Llandovery is no great distance, and Brecon is barely an hour's drive away. Those, plus Crickhowell and Abergavenny, are all good bases for exploring the Beacons and the unspoilt area further north - the park boundary does not extend to the north because of an army gunnery range on the Eppynt, but there is plenty of lovely scenery there.

Or you could go north from Lampeter and spend some time around Tregaron. Very Welsh, very wild.

Brecon Beacons is a great choice - don't miss the waterfalls, especially the one where you walk behind the water:

If you like nature, the Red Kite feeding station is real treat:

Enjoy!

If you can fit it in, either going or coming back, drive along the Wye valley Monmouth < - > Chepstow to enjoy the steeply wooded river valley and a visit to Tintern Abbey ruins.

Thank you guys, your comments and inputs are really appreciated! Many thanks.

Blorengia, I was actually toying with that idea on our first day. Driving from London to Monmout, Chepstow, stay for a night somewhere there.

On the second day, drive through Brecon Beacons to get to Llanybydder - according to Google Maps 3 miles from the wedding location.

And on Sunday drive through Swansea and Cardif on the way back to London.

Many thanks again!

Hi, driving from Crickhowell to Maesbury Marsh. 2 x 60 + year olds. Reasonably fit.

2 and 1/2 hour drive accordingly to google maps. We have about 5 hours from check out to check in at our next B & B, and would like to explore on our drive north.

Have already decided to have a look at Brecon, especially the cathedral but can anyone advise some other sights to see. More natural features than museums and art galleries is what we're looking for.

Thanks in advance. Enneirda

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack someone else's question.

Mistakenly put this in the reply section instead of ask a question section.

Will try again.

Alternatively Lampeter is only a 56 minute drive to CRdigan Nd the West Wales coast, so you could base yourself in Newcadtle Emlyn and explore that area.
