Advice for Easter 2009 weekend road trip to North Wales

Hellooo fellow travelers,

I'm looking to do an Easter surprise roadtrip for my boyfriend and as he is usually the planner, I need your advice pleeez?

I'm hoping to drive up on Easter Friday from London and drive back Sunday evening or Monday if need be.

What is the best route and where should we stop the Friday night and then the Saturday night to make the most of our time?

I'd luv to see one of the amazing castles and Snowdonia?

Any pointers to posts that already cover this would be gr8, I don't mean for you to repeat yourself?

Thanks in advance!

Picking up on Phil from Cheshires comments about Snowden - chances are at Easter the train won't be going all the way to the summit and may finish at Clogwen. The new visitor Centre being built opens "Spring 2009' but I can't find out a definite date. There has been quite a bit of discussion about this on an earlier thread which you might want to read.

Denbigh has a ruined castle. For details of opening etc www.cadw.wales.gov.uk/default.asp…

And for pictures:

If you like castles, Rhuddlan is about 10 miles away.

Neither of these is on the usual tourist beat and will be quiet. The more popular castles of Conwy, Caernarvon and Beaumaris (on Anglesey) will be busier.

There is lots of good scenery. But be warned driving will be slow as roads are often narrow with stone walls and passing can be difficult. There will also be caravans.... Easter is always busy. Give yourself plenty of time and don't be too ambitious.
