Where to stay... any recommendations?

I'm thinking of visiting North Wales in late August, or September... or maybe later on in the year. Has anyone got any recommendations, either general or specific re where to stay? It's just me and my dog - and I'm looking for self-catering, so either a cottage, lodge or static caravan. I'd like to be rural, with access to the beaches - will have a car, so completely mobile.

Any suggestions are very welcome, as I've never been to North Wales before. i don't want to be anywhere to blatantly touristy :-)

Thanks

A

Seeing as no one else has offered any advice, I'll offer my basic knowledge.

A nice town with good access to the beaches would be Conwy. For accommodation there start with Trip Advisor's reviews:

www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Search…

An alternative would be Betws Y Coed. It is further from the beaches but is in the mountains. Again I would use Trip Advisor's reviews for accommodation:

tripadvisor.co.uk/Tourism-g186447-Betws_y_Co…

Hopefully this will kick start some suggestions from the other regular posters.

If not feel free to ask me for more vague information!

Hi

Last year we stayed in Conwy which would seem to suit your requirements.

We rented a cottage through www.northwalesholidaycottages.co.uk. The cottage name is Gwynfa - very clean, comfortable, well equipped and accepts dogs. There is also off-road parking right opposite the cottage.

We rented a cottage on Conwy Marina through www.northwalesholidaylets.co.uk and some of their rentals accept dogs. It is by the sea, has a lovely pub on site, golf and is a riverside walk to the town of Conwy which has pubs, restaurants, shops etc..

If it's beaches as well as mountains that you're after, you might like to consider areas further west than Conwy. Both Anglesey (Mon) and the Llyn peninsula are lovely rural areas with many beaches and small towns, but the Harlech/Ardudwy area may be even more suitable. Superb beaches all along the coast, and inland the Rhinog hills. These are a little lower than than the main peaks of Snowdonia but at least as enjoyable for rambling.

Thanks for the suggestions... I do like the sound of the Llyn peninsula and would like to visit Anglesey. Now all I have to do is find somewhere!
