Holyhead-Llandudno train: do we need advance tickets?

We are arriving on the Dublin ferry in Holyhead on Monday June 2 around 5 pm, catching a train to Holyhead. (We're coming from the airport and international flight.) Do we need to get train tickets in advance? It doesn't seem like a long trip.??

I cannot see why as it is a regular scheduled service and is only a few carriages long.

You do need to get your Dublin-Holyhead ferry tickets/reservations in advance, and it may be cheaper to get a SailRail through ticket from Dublin - Llandudno from Irish Rail than separate tickets.

Good advice, Sailrail tickets can be cheaper than separate ones. OP, you will probably need to change trains at Llandudno Junction. Or you may not, if your accommodation is nearer to the Junction!

We already have a ferry ticket since it was too difficult to get a sailrail ticket from the US. Is it possible to get train tickets easily just there when the train is leaving for Llandudno from Holyhead?

You can buy a ticket at the station in Holyhead. The ticket office should be open at the time you arrive

Holyhead station has a ticket machine so it should be possible to buy tickets even if the ticket office is closed, and you should also be able to buy tickets from the guard on the train. The only possible benefit of booking in advance is that it should give you the option of reserving a seat. I don't know how busy the trains are likely to be, the last time I got a train from Holyhead it was almost empty but having said that it wasn't one that left just after a ferry had arrived.

<<Holyhead station has a ticket machine >>

You may well be right, but the National Rail station information site says it doesn't.
