Reaching St-David's Cathedral on foot

We will have a car but read that it is much nicer to 'discover' St-David's Cathedral by arriving on foot. Where could we leave our car and hike between 30-60 minutes before arriving on site...?

Thanks for your help!

You could park in Caerfai Bay. Nice free carpark on cliff top, the bay is charming as well. From there it's an easy walk back into St David's and then to the cathedral. We've often parked there when it's difficult to find parking spaces in St David's.

Wherever you park, you will not be able to see the cathedral. It's unusual in being hidden in a valley, so your first view will be as you enter the valley.

The cathedral is well worth a visit. So strange to find this large cathedral in a city which is smaller than many villages.

As above, but also...

If you wanted to extend the walk you could park at the Caerfai Bay carpark, follow the cliff path west for about 0.75 miles to visit the remains of St Non's Well and Chapel and then follow the minor road from there back north into St David's (another 0.75miles).

Your return to the carpark would be along a different minor road back to Caerfai Bay. Total circular walk is about 2.5 miles.

You know better than me how long you're likely to take to walk 2.5 miles mostly on minor fairly level country lanes with about 1 mile along a well-defined cliff path...

How fit are you, and how many photos of "the view" do you want to take? ;-)

My best guess would be to allow yourself a couple of hours for the walking bit.
