Inexpensive parking near Mermaid Quay/Food Recs

Our family from the U.S. will be spending one night in Caerphilly and want to eat dinner at Mermaid Quay and walk around the bay the evening of May 10th. Is there cheaper parking close by than that found at Mermaid Quay (3 hours--4 pounds)? What are your recs for good but reasonably priced food (possibly Welsh)? About how long will it take to eat dinner and walk around the bay? Thanks for your help.

There are some residential-type streets which may have some spare parking spaces in the evening, near the Coal Exchange, Baltic House etc (search on a google map). Otherwise, you could park in the Red Dragon Centre which is a very quick walk to Mermaid Key, and offer free parking to customers (even if you just pop in to buy an ice cream) more details here: thereddragoncentre.co.uk/about-us/parking.php

For eating, Mimosa is the best bet for Welsh cuisine, and not too expensive comparatively. They cook really good locally and sustainably sourced food. There is a really wide choice of places to eat in the bay, but many are chain restaurants and nothing out of the ordinary. The main restaurant / bar / waterfront area can be strolled around in twenty minutes to half an hour to take in the main sites including the Senedd (home of the National Assembly for Wales), Norwegian Church, Millennium Centre and Pier Head Building, but if they want to spend longer they can walk some of the barrage towards Penarth, which is a nice and popular walk. visitcardiff.com/things-to-do/cardiff-bay-ba…

All in all, I'm sure they could have dinner and a decent walk around the main bay area in around 3 - 4 hours.

Hope they enjoy!
