It takes probably an hour by train or car. Check out www.thetrainline.com for timetable and prices - hope this helps

www.theaa.com will give you a route planner and distances if you are driving it.

Trains from Bristol - Temple Meads Station is the central one - to Cardiff approx every half hour during the day. Journey time approx 50mins - A day return ticket will cost £8.10 off peak, £11.10 peak, or £12 to return any day within the month.

You can buy tickets as little as £2.50 each way, but you must book in advance & seats are limited in number - book early.

Full details can be found at www.qjump.co.uk

If you require any more information, let me know as I work on the trains & go frequenty on that route.

It says the last train from Cardiff to Bristol is at 22.00

Any ideas on how to get back to Bristol at approximately 23.00 without having to fork out for a taxi?

National Express have a coach leaves at 0130 most mornings takes 1 hour 20mins but best option I think. Bus station is opposite rail station. Best to prebook if poss at www.nationalexpress.co.uk.

Could also take train at 2315 to Chepstow,or sometimes later one at 0020. (train destination Gloucester). Taxi from Chepstow will be much lower than frm Cardiff. Same trains also call at Newport (15 miles frm Cardiff & 24 hour taxi office outside the station). This make cut a few ££s of taxi cost frm Cardiff.

Probably still cost you quite a few ££s though & will need to prebook if taking taxi frm Chepssow as fairly quiet place & lights go out early. There is taxi office at Chepstow near rail station. 1st 4U taxis 01291 622777 or 01291 630999 for rates.

check www.arrivtrainswales.co.uk for train info as can vary - depending on day of travel.

Final choic e is to find a cheap BB in Cardiff / Newport area & travel by train next day. Can find some reasonable cost BBs on Cathedral Road which is mile or 2 frm centre of Cardiff.

If you are visiting during the main football / rugby matchs though - forget accomm as almost all will be full.

It is annoying that trains stop so early on this route, but hope these options help.
