Getting from Belfast to Bruges?

We will be over to enjoy the New Year in Belfast with friends and family. We are spending the Xmas and New Year period in London and Belfast, then heading off to do a 2-3 week tour of Europe. Our intention is to start our tour in Bruges, although Amsterdam could be an option as well (we originally planned to start Bruges, then Amsterdam and on to Germany). I have been searching different flight options, around Jan 3rd (optional) and all the flights I can find to Brussels, are via London. Does anyone know of any other options in reaching Bruges or as an alternative, Amsterdam?

Just one other question. We will arrive in Belfast around Dec 27th and will have a car available to us in Ballynahinch. We also have the option of a friends holiday shack in Bushmills. We are keen to cruise around for 2-3 days and wondered if anyone had any good options that could take us on a loop...possibly starting in Belfast, working down into the south and then heading back up to either Belfast or Bushmills-Giants Causeway areas over 3 days?

hi you can fly to Amsterdam directly from Belfast with www.easyjet.com the flights are on sale now. If you want to go direct to Brussels then flying from Dublin will be an option for you, try www.aerlingus.com and www.ryanair.com for flights from Dublin.

Okay the previous posters have given you the best flight options to Amsterdam.

As for the second part I would personally continue to use Belfast as a base of operations (better choices for evening meals etc) and simply take day trips by car

The Mourne Mountains

The Fermanagh Lakes

The Antrim Coast Road

would all make fantastic day trips. The problem with the Republic is that most of its best scenic attractions and towns are well south of the border. The one exception is Donegal so you could fit that into a round trip if you don't want to stay in Belfast as follows;

Day One - Mourne Mountains

Day Two - Fermanagh Lakes and Donegal

Day Three - Inishowen and the North Coast (but don't miss the Antrim coast road on another day when you are staying in Bushmills)

PS - Bring an umbrella !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
