Que about where to stay last night in N

Hello everyone!

After a very last minute cancellation of our trip last April due to the volcanic ash, we are happily planning a trip again this April! We are departing out of BFS at 11:15 on a Saturday and wondering if staying in Newcastle (Slieve Donard) the night before would be too much of a stretch? Beginning to think we should stay closer to the airport and move our Newcastle stay back a day to fully enjoy the resort/area itself. We plan on 2 nights there. Any thoughts on a hotel location nearer the airport ?

Thank you and looking forward to your thoughts!

It will take you about 1.5-2hrs to get to the airport from Newcastle..suggest you look around Antrim. Believe there is a Holiday Inn there 9if that suits your budget)

It would take a good 1.5 hours (as Cats says maybe even up to 2) to get to the airport as you have to drive through Belfast. On a Saturday morning it should be quiet but you are still talking at least 1.5 hours. Doable with an early start but not recommended.

There is an airport hotel - the Park Plaza

Aside from that you could stay in Antrim/Templepatrick or even Belfast city centre.

I would go for the Hilton hotel in Templepatrick, very nice, can personally recommend it, and only a 10 minute drive from the airport.

They have very keen rates and you may find a better deal for the hotel if you go through www.booking.com

Thank you all for your responses!

Just flew home to a very snowy, cold Central New York from a very warm, sunny coastal Florida .... oh well ...now to settle in and happily plan our trip to Northern Ireland!

I will take a look at those hotels mentioned and figure out the best one for us. I do feel a sense of relief knowing that we will not be rushed to get to the airport for that morning flight, so I thank you all for your input on that and welcome any other suggestions you may have!

We have been to the North Antrim coast and Donegal so we know (in general) what we will do/see for our first 6 days. ;-) ....... then on to play Royal County Down and explore that area for 2 days ...we travel with our kids whose ages are 8,14 and16. Together, we love beaches, mountain walks, pretty villages, historical sites etc. Not much for city experiences on this trip, though!

Again, thank you all and looking forward to the rest of my planning and of course, our trip in April!

Stay warm where-ever you are!
