Hillsborough to Dungiven east of Derry

Will be travelling between these two places we are staying .Would like to incorporate the Antrim coast road at least till Glenarm . Should we start the coast road around at Carrickfergus or Larne and take it farther than Glenarm . We have all day to get where we are going so I expect we will be stopped walking and looking more than we are driving. Doing the drive july 8 , will weather play a part in the route? We enjoy smaller places and hidden gems if that makes any sense.

thanks

If you can, you should allow a full day to travel this route. There is loads to see so you can't cover it all in a day.but you can get the highlights. The second part of the route is by far the better so to save time you actually want to join it at Larne, rather than leave it then. On a clear day the narrow winding Torr Head scenic route is stunning. Several pretty little villages, Glenariff forest park (waterfall walk, Carrick-a-rede rope bridge, ballintoy harbour, Giants Causeway, Portbradden (cute photostop), Old Bushmills Distillery, Dunluce castle (great history & views), are a few highlights. Lots of lovely beaches for walks...

If you can manage it you should stick to the coast all the way between Larne and Downhill, IMO one of the world's great drives. Don't miss Mussenden Temple and the nearby Bishop's Road. Do you have a particular reason for staying in Dungiven? I will keep my fingers crossed for you to have good weather as, without it, it will be rather a bleak trip.

Staying at Drumcovitt House in a converted barn. Will be there for 2 nights so can do the loop along the coast if we don't do it on the way there.
