July trip day 3

Off to Belmore Forest for a hike on bush roads around the reforested former quarry. Some logging was taking place though the trees in one section were cut already and being piled to transport.End of trail brought us to Pollnagallum Cave , there are steps down to it and a platform with a gate and lock to keep you from going down to cave entrance and base of waterfall . Somehow we managed to get pictures from the cave entrance .

Stopped in Blacklion on way back to Rose Cottage and got meat at the butcher's , didn't realize it was across the border.Dropped in at the visitor info centre and learned how to call N.I.

After lunch back to Marble Arch Caves as we had booked the jeep safari tour to Cuilcagh Mountain.Interesting tour of changing landscape to base of mountain. Went through former area of industrial peat cutting that had been restored and drainage blocked . Weather changed fast during 2 hour trip had sun ,rain, hail and wind. We were up high enough to see the weather fronts rolling past across the hills in the distance. Enjoyed the tour, there was another couple with us in the land rover and a family in the other jeep.

On the road from the caves we went past a restored traditional cottage just off the road called Killykeeghan . There is ample parking, a path to walk on and you walk right past cows and calves laying beside the path to get to the cottage .It is another peaceful , scenic spot off the beaten path. There are pictures inside the cottage about the history of the area (life in the marlbank) and its remote location . Even has a bathroom in the restored building beside it . Farther along the road is the Marlbank lookout and another stop for great views and pictures. If you look closely on the way down the hill past this pullover you will see an old stone barn with the narrow slot windows still in use.

Ended the day in Belco next to Blacklion as our friend took us and her cousins out for a meal at the Customs house. Had to be driven back from the cousins place because of too much Irish hospitality.

Another day we really enjoyed though we should have gone to bed earlier.
