travel from kilkenny to antrim coast

I am planning a trip to visit the GC and Antrim Coast for March 17th weekend, traveling from Kilkenny. I am wondering the quickest and easiest way to make this trip without a car....bus/train/both?? Looking at staying either in Ballintoy or Ballycastle, but open to other options depending on what place will be the easiest to access without a car.

Thanks!!

would be bus! Nearest train station is coleraine.

There is a regular bus that does the coast road from belfast to londonderry via larne, ballycastle, portrush etc. OR get train from belfast to coleraine & then bus to ballycastle or ballintoy (the bus goes through ballintoy en-route to ballycastle ).

I would prefer the bus on the coast road as the scenery is far better than the train!!

I agree with the transport options mentioned above. If you are travelling without a car Ballycastle is the best place to stay.It is much bigger than Ballintoy (which is worth a brief visit with the pretty harbour and the Carrickarede rope-bridge which is not open yet this year) and has much more happening as well as a breath-taking beach to stroll along. There are too many pubs to mention and all will have entertainment for the weekend. Book accomodation soon as it is a busy weekend there and the B&Bs and hotels are well booked.A few places are listed under Ballycastle on this site

Hi Menab,

If you contact the local tourist centre in Ballycastle they should be able to give you details:

Sheskburn House, 7 Mary Street, Ballycastle 028 2076 2024

E tourism@moyle-council.org

or

Causeway Coast & Glens Tourism Partnership

11 Lodge Road, Coleraine 028 7032 7720

E mail@causewaycoastandglens.com

They can also send you 'bumph' on the area...thought you might also like a link to listen to this Radio 4 programme that was broadcast today about the Causeway (30mins long ~ just click the 'listen again')

www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/factual/ramblings.shtml

Hope this helps
