2 nights - carrickfergus or larne??

I have a choice of staying in a hotel in carrickfergus or a b+b in Larne(on the glenarm rd) and I need to know which place might be more lively.

After we've driven around my husband will want to park up and have a few beers so which would be the better choice?

Is carrick easy to get around on foot and are there a few nice bars or is larne better?

cheers for any info

Personally I would choose Carrickfergus. Stay at the Quality hotel

choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/html/HotelInfo…

There is Carrickfergus Castle and the marina a short 10min walk away from the hotel. There are restaurants and bars in this area which are nice.

On further into the town there are more bars but the ones around the marina area are nice.

All I ever saw of Larne was the ferry port area which was desolate, industrial and souless in the way that ferryports always are. I'm guessing that the town of Larne itself was much nicer than that.

Never been to Carrickfergus either, but any help or advice from NYCfan is well worth taking - I know from personal experience!

Have you considered going to Belfast itself - I've heard its a great place, and I'm sure you can get some good tips on the forum on where best to stay so that you can easily park up and explore the place on foot.

Doh! Can't beleive I still called it the Quality....too many years of going there to Charlies nightclub! Yes its now the Clarion and here is the proper link...

(see Google still has old links ;o) )

If you come up into Belfast though the choice is endless of hotels and bars. Only a 1/2 drive max from Carrickfergus

Avoid Larne at all costs. Carrickfergus wouldnt have a lot of nightlife and as its not far from Belfast anyway you would be much better staying in Belfast where you have a lot more options on where to stay and places to go
