getting around Derry and general area

Hi. I will be traveling to Derry for 3 days in June. I am flying in from Glasgow and had hoped to use public transportation to go to various sights. Is it necessary to have a car to go to such places as the Giants Causeway and to other sights outside of Derry? Is anyone familiar with good day tours that I can explore on the web? Thanks to anyone who responds. It's greatly appreciated! Travelgirl

This is do-able using train and bus particularly during the summer. See www.translink.co.uk to check timetables and you should be able to plan a good day out. Ulsterbus Service 402 and 177 will be particularly useful.

The ilink travel card valid for both bus and train is £15 for a day:

Hi there

You should find the tourist info link useful for tour info etc:

www.derryvisitor.com

If you would like to visit Donegal during your stay there is a bus service which links Derry to the main towns in Donegal (Lough Swilly Bus)

Feel free to post any other qs

Be forewarned that there are no bus tours available from Derry along the coastal region. You will either need to use the public bus system or hire a private guide. There are organized tours from Belfast.

We opted to hire a private taxi. It was expensive but we could go wherever we wanted.
