Historic Scotland's Free weekend

historic-scotland.gov.uk/index/properties/pr…

on the 21st and 22nd April.

So if you've ever walked up to the castle esplanade, looked

at the prices and walked back down again, this particular weekend

is for you!

It's nice to get a freebie isn't it.

a couple of years ago we were visiting Pompeii in Italy and it just happened to be national Heritage day when we were there, got in free (usually 10euros) so we were happy bunnies.

a lot of families will be taking advantage of this offer so anyone going out to visit the sites I would suggest you get there early.

I'd echo Unclegus's advice as my wife and I went to Edinburgh Castle on a similar free weekend several years ago and the place was hoaching with natives!

There are a couple of interesting castles out my way - not quite as impressive as Edinburgh I'll grant you:-)

Dundonald may get a visit!

purple - try the old castle pub, if you fancy a bite.

Lovely place Dundonald. From the castle, you can see past the paper mill to Arran :-)
