Does anyone have some ideas of good day hikes near Loch Lomand and Sky?

Thanks!

Have a look here (found by googling)

sandwood-lodge.co.uk/outabout2_walking.htm

or this online walking magazine -

countrywalkingroutes.co.uk/routes/default.asp

The choice is huge, and only you know your fitness and skill levels; and whether you want high or low level walks (hikes).

Note the spelling of Lomond and Skye if you are going to do some searches.

Ben Lomond is a popular hill (a Munro) and nearby are the "Arrochar Alps".

Skye has a huge choice but the Black Cuillin deserve considerable respect. Take sensible precautions when goin onto the hills. Lives are lost every year because people overestimate their ability and underestimate the Scottish weather.

Some ideas:

Near Loch Lomond:

Ben Lomond itself, but rather than just going up the main route to the top and straight back, go in a circular walk via the hill called the Ptarmigan - it is not much longer, but is a lovely scenic walk. see www.munromagic.com/MountainInfo.cfm/184 for some pictures.

Ben Donich, from the rest and be thankful - this hill is under 3000 feet but you start at 1000 feet so this is a shorter outing - but scenic nonetheless.

Doune Hill behind Luss - so you can work up an apetite for the heavenly apple pie and ice cream at the luss coach house coffee shop!

Skye:

Bruach na Frithe - arguably the best viewpoint in the Cuillins, and by Cuillin standards a straightforward, non exposed walk. Well worth the walk.

Around the coast to Loch Coruisk from the road to Elgol, via Camusonary - a lovely coastal walk (with one scrambly bit) into the heart of the Cuillins.

The Storr from the Staffin road - an easy (uphill) hike into some very strange, atmospheric and dramatic scenery - as is the Quiraing, some miles further north.

there are lots more but these are some favourites..

For general Skye inspiration have a look at Ann Bowkers pictures: www.geocities.com/Yosemite/1015/skye.htm wow!
