three day trip to the highlands from glasgow

I will be in Glasgow for work from 7 - 9th April. My husband is planning on joining me on 9th and we have until 12th. i would love to visit the Highlands (assume too early for midgies??) has anyone any ideas on somewhere nice to stay - comfy rooms and good food quiet but not too remote so that we could explore on foot or by car during the day and return at night - walking distance to a village/small town restaurant pub would be good.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Correct: no midges until about June.

I am wondering about Oban. It's a town rather than a village but it's both a good centre for exploring and a pleasant place to hang out in if you decide to stay put.

Last time we were there we got a good rate and good value at The Oban Bay hotel - crerarhotels.com/ourhotels/…index.html - but there are loads of places to stay.

Pitlochry area might suit you for a decent base

thank you both for your suggestions - i willcheck them out. since they take us in opposite direction i will just have to make up my mind which way we want to go as don't want to spend the whole three days driving.
