Scotland- where to go and how- Confused,

Hi,

We are planning for a trip to Scotland.I have planned to go to Isle of Skye, Eliean Donan Castle,Loch ness , Edinburgh and Glasgow is possible.

Going aroung Edinburgh and Glasgow should not be a problem I hope. But i wanted to know how I can go to Isle of skye,Eliean DOnan , Loch ness and Stirling castle also. We dont drive ,so we depend on public trasnport. But i oly see a lot of tours offering this. Please suggest what is the best option.

Thanks,

Nithya

You can get to these places by train, although not Eilean Donan. Public transport not the best to here and there are plenty of other wonderful castles to visit. It would not be necessary to book a tour.

Once you're at your destination you can use the local bus to go further afield.

This site may help.

The bus (Citylink?) from Glasgow to Skye passes Eilan Donan Castle (and Loch Ness, I think), and it will stop there for you to get out. It's beside the village of Dornie.

Peterscot (reply 4) is correct. Look at www.citylink.co.uk for details about Scottish Citylink coaches. There is a regular service from Glasgow to the Isle of Skye which stops in Dornie (for Eilean Donan Castle).

For train services within Scotland see www.scotrail.co.uk

day 2 take ery to armadale on skye and then by bus to kyle of lochalsh

overnight at nearby plocton

day 3 return by train via inverness to edinburgh

Re last posting "take a picnic and bottle of wine or two for the train journeys"

Yeah and find yourself getting nicked by the cops!!!

It is an offence to drink in a public place in Scotland including trains unless in a buffet car.
