Driving from Inverness to Aberdeen/Inverurie

Hello all,

We are planning a trip to Inverness in mid February and would also like to visit Aberdeen and Inverurie. We plan to rent a car to get around Inverness, but we're debating driving vs. taking the train to Aberdeen due to unfamiliar roads, driving on the "wrong" side and inexperience driving in icy conditions.

Is it realistic to use transit and taxis to get around Aberdeen and Inverurie? Any suggestions for activities and dining? We already plan to visit Fraser Castle.

Thank you for your help!

Bus: aberdeenshire.gov.uk/publictransport/…

Train: http://www.scotrail.co.uk/ - trains from Inverness to Aberseen usually call at Inverurue.

So public transport is fine for the centre of each town. As soon as you involve places like Castle Fraser you are talking about taxi for the last few miles and having to investigate local buses and trains. See nts.org.uk/Property/…

Double check your Castle Fraser plans. According to their website, ththe castle is not open until March.

Looks like the grounds are open however.

Trains are reasonably cheap from inverness to Aberdeen and also run quite frequently

I would check opening times as lots of places close for a few months when things are quiet.

Taxi should be easy from stations and not too expensive
