Itinerary and places to stay

Hi

we are a family with 2 kids aged 6 & 9. We are planning on spending a fortnight in Scotland. would like to spend time in the highlands and around the trossachs and perth area. Also a couple of days each in Skye and Edinburgh

we would ideally like to stay in self catering places. Were thinking of spending 3/4 nights in Ulapool area and around a week around Pitlochry area and using these as bases to cover the areas around rather than move from one location to the other every day

Wanted advice whether these are the best/good places to stay or would there be other towns that we should look to base ourselves off

Thanks

1. Re: Itinerary and places to stay

A lot depends on when you're planning this.

If high season - July and August - you'll struggle to get self catering for under a week. It does exist but most places will rent saturday to saturday.

If it was me I'd try to rent somewhere like Pitlochry for a week and Plockton for a week.

Plockton is a good compromise between a week on Skye and one on the mainland. Ullapool is a good choice but if youdecide to spend time on Skye it's a bit far north for day trips.

An alternative to Pitlochry would be Aviemore. Loads to do here but a bit further north.

Thanks for the inputs

We are planning end June, and you are right, getting self catering for less than a week is an issue. We certainly want to do trips to Durness and Lochinver area - would these be doable from Plockton or Aviemore ?
