Holiday at Scotland From Bristol during march longweekend 13

Hi we are a group of 7-9 and planning to visit Scotland from Bristol during the march 2013 long weekend..

Have planned to take a flight from Bristol to Glasgow and hire car for the rest of the trip and take a return fight back to Bristol.. Not sure if thats the best option

Need suggestions on the places to visit during the 3-4 days of time and accommodation options

Looking forward for a nice holiday.

Do you mean Easter by 'long March weekend'? If so , for group that size, you need to look into booking both trsvel a nd accommodation a.s.a.p as it is avert popular time for short breaks anywhere in the country.

If you're flying in and out that rather suggests parts of days 1 and 4 are committed? Hence you really have 2 full days plus two part days?

If so, there's no point in being enormously ambitious over distances. Pick up a car from Glasgow Airport, take the Clyde Bridge and visit Loch Lomond, Oban, Gencoe, The Trossachs, maybe Stirling. Perhaps some time in Glasgow before returning to the airport.

Unless this is likely to be your only ever visit to Scotland - in which case, go for it! But you'd need to choose whether you prefer travelling to lots of places or getting out the car to enjoy some locations.

We will change from winter time to summer time during the Scottish part of your stay. This really means that it gets dark at 6 or 7 pm approximately, limiting any evening driving you might want to do.

As mentioned on the Bristol Forum, trains from Glasgow are a possibilty but it's difficult to construct a satisfactory circular tour with the time available. Well, not entirely impossible: train Glasgow-Fort-William-Mallaig. Ferry to Skye. Exit Skye by Kyle of Lochalsh. Train to Inverness and back to Glasgow.

Lastly, hiring a car. Please check carefully because I think you may have trouble hiring a vehicle more than 7 seats. Large vehicles usually need special licences. You need to email some car companies. You may need two cars ...

Roaming around in Inverness for a day seems to me to be a waste of your time given that you can't 'cover' Skye in one day. Stay on Skye an extra night and see something of the island. Walk the Quiraing or take a boat trip from Elgol out to Loch Coruisk. These places are stunning. Google and have a look at the images

We are defitinely looking for cheapest stay as we are a grup of 10 so i suppose guest house should be the best as as you said we will stay 2 nights at isle of Skye once we start from Glasgow. From Glasgow we will reach isle of skye traveling on the way and seeing places on way, hence suggest

Thanks in advance for all your help
