Just 2 days to get from North East Scotland and Edinburgh

We are 4 adults, most of us have never been to Scotland before. We will have just spent a week with family in Huntley, north of Aberdeen in July this year. We have 2 nights ( a Saturday and Sunday night) to spare before needing to get to Edinburgh. We will have our own car. Any suggestions?

What are you doing while in the Huntly area? Because Deeside, Stonehaven and Dunnotar castle spring to mind. And there are two ways south, one being Braemar - Blairgowrie - Perth, the other being Montrose - Dundee - and then maybe into East Fife - St Andrews and the small villages of the East Neuk.

Third way south: head west into Speyside. Dufftown, Tomintoul and then down to Braemar.

Why not research what's near each route? http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/

<<Third way south: head west into Speyside. Dufftown, Tomintoul and then down to Braemar>> - a bit of a circuitous route, the other two would be better!

As Derek, says it would be better if we knew what you wil already have seen, and what sort of thing would you like to see during your two days?

Thank you and apologies for delayed response. We're not sure just how much we'll get to around Huntley as the purpose is family time rather than sightseeing. Lets assume we'll have a coastal day and a whiskey tasting day and I am hoping Dunnotar .I think, for the two days in question , we're like minded in that we would like to spend both nights in one place and experience the vicinity both from a scenic perspective from a drive, but also being able to pop in to local restaurants/pubs for lunch/supper or have a wildlife experience e.g ospreys . Unfortunately I think hiking is not on the itinerary, but we do all love remote and wild. I am concerned about the fact hat we have a Sunday in the mix?

While you're in Huntly, see the Falconry Centre (http://www.huntly-falconry-centre.com/ ) and lots of distilleries within easy reach. Alternatively, visit a distillery on your last day, somewhere in Perthshire

Map of distilleries - http://www.scotlandwhisky.com/distilleries/

First day stay in Stonehaven - Dunottar castle, coastal scenery and harbour, nice restaurants - and what about this for the "wildlife" - http://www.huskyhaven.co.uk/

Perthshire has beautiful scenery for your last day (maybe a distillery) - maybe Dunkeld, Pitlochery, Blair Atholl areas

Not really practical to stay in either of these places for both nights, would be a lot of unnecessary driving. You'd either have to choose a night in each area, or choose a central spot like Dundee - not too far to visit Stonehaven, Perthsire and on to Edinburgh.
